Freedom Entertainment Celebrates Black History Month
Let Freedom Ring! These are the famous words of the late Dr. Martin Luther King. We are blessed to witness the mark of the Historical Presidential Inauguration of Barak Obama as the 44th President of the United States. During this very dark time in our nation’s history and the world’s economy, the bright light of unity of the American People was shown throughout the world. In spite of a very tainted racial past, the citizens came together to elect our first black President.
Truly, this celebration of Black History Month should inspire us to appreciate the contributions of those that came before us and honor them by continuing in the spirit of unity. Also, we owe it to our forerunners and ourselves to create history and impact our communities. In our lifetime, we have been able to see the fruit of those that laid the bricks, picked the cotton, took the lashes, and became human bridges until we reached this defining moment.
Freedom Entertainment network movement is utilizing all of its energy to bridge gaps to facilitate social change through the arts. While we desire to provide inspirational and positive entertainment, it is not the end but simply a means to change our section of the world. We realize one organization or one person cannot do it alone. We all need each other. In each of us the Creator has placed a purpose and a vision. Each vision is just a piece of a beautiful tapestry. We challenge all to join us on this proverbial Freedom train as each car links together, momentum is created and the power of unity is totally effective. Together, yes we can, create a better place to live, worship, and serve.
When we do the spoken word God said in the beginning “let there be light,” that light is truly manifest in our lives, in our community and in the making of our children’s history.

Black History Facts
Black History Month began as "Negro History Week," in 1926 by Carter G. Woodson, a noted African American historian, scholar, educator, and publisher. It became a month-long celebration in 1976 and the month of February was chosen to coincide with the birthdays of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln.
Jack Johnson was the first African-American man to hold the World Heavyweight Champion boxing title in 1908. He held on to be the champion until 1915.
John Mercer Langston became the first black man to become a lawyer in Ohio; he passed the Bar in 1854. He was elected as the Town Clerk for Brownhelm, Ohio in 1855. He was one of the first African Americans ever elected to a public office in America. John Langston was also the great-uncle of Langston Hughes, a well-known poet of the Harlem Renaissance.
Thurgood Marshall was the first African American appointed to the United States Supreme Court; he was appointed by President Lyndon B. Johnson. Thurgood Marshall served on the Supreme Court from 1967 to 1991.
Shirley Chisholm was the first African American woman elected to the House of Representatives in 1968 to represent the state of New York. Also, she was the first African-American candidate to run for the President of the United States in 1972.

Ihsan Hines, also known by the name Purpose, is a man of God whose gospel rap ministry has reached thousands of people. Whether young or just young at heart, many have been blessed by Purpose's clear and creative lyrics as he delivers the Gospel of Jesus Christ through rap music, spoken word and just general conversation.
The name Purpose was revealed to Ihsan during devotions and prayer. He believes people can find peace and joy when they understand their purpose is to glorify God and have a relationship with Him through Jesus Christ. He says, "A relationship with Jesus reveals ones purpose, provides understanding, peace during trials, and encouragement to press towards goals". God has called His children to be light within this dark world, and Purpose's mission is to minister the gospel of Jesus Christ effectively and compassionately.
Ihsan loves when people are challenged to grow after hearing from Jesus. Jesus speaks through the man of God so the glory and applause are due to Him. Why clap, rap, dance, rap and sing if there isn't a change afterwards? The lifestyle response is more important than a right now response."

He feels the responsibility to teach the cycle of life by applying his philosophy; “each one teaches one.” It is his desire to go beyond just teaching one child and target all children of the world. Through his writes, he hopes to add to their essence and help them grow sturdily.
Among his many written works, his latest publication, The Mountain Of Miracles does a commendable job of presenting the reader with the very real consequences of unchecked selfishness. In simple, straightforward – yet powerful fashion, Young uses the allegory of David’s life to highlight the all-important virtue of humility, as well as what happens when it is trampled under the weight of self-seeking greed. Ostensibly a children’s book, The Mountain Of Miracles is sure to enlighten readers of all ages with its timely lessons, as well as its ability to connect with minds and hearts across all races, creeds, and other supposed divisions.
